Cedric Bouchard, born into a Champagne farming family, founded Champagne Roses de Jeanne in 2000. This small vineyard, spanning only 1.37 hectares, was named after his grandmother Janika and is possibly the smallest independent grower-producer (RM, Recoltant Manipulant) in the entire Champagne region.
Young, dynamic, and talented, Cedric has a unique perspective on Champagne making. From the outset, he has embraced a revolutionary philosophy, focusing on natural grape cultivation and minimalist winemaking. He adopts an innovative approach known as "single variety, single vineyard, single vintage" to craft his Champagnes. Unlike most Champagnes that blend grapes from multiple regions, vintages, and up to three different grape varieties, the Champagnes of Champagne Roses de Jeanne are made from grapes grown in a single vineyard, in a single vintage, and from a single grape variety, making it a revolutionary concept.
After the grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted, they undergo gentle pressing or foot stomping (pigeage) before being placed in stainless steel tanks for fermentation. After the first stage of fermentation is complete, the wine is left in the tanks for three months without filtering or clarification before being bottled and transferred to the cellar for secondary fermentation, where the delicate bubbles develop. Depending on the wine, it continues to age on the lees in the bottle for 16 to 80 months before disgorgement, with no dosage added to any of the wines, showcasing the purest expression of terroir.
In a short period of time, Cedric has not only produced remarkably high-quality Champagnes but has also created a new style of premium Champagne with his personal touch. His reputation has soared, making him one of the most sought-after Champagne producers, earning high praise from professional media in France and around the world.
