Laura Coffinet and Philippe Duvernay embarked on their life journey together, much like many other unions in Burgundy, France's esteemed wine region brought together by two families with deep roots in winemaking, intertwined around a small yet exceptional parcel of ancestral vines. Despite their common beginnings, Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay, established in 1989, has set itself apart with its coveted vineyard holdings and wines that exude elegance and reflect the unique terroir of the region.
The Coffinet-Duvernay estate has been a part of the Coffinet family since 1860, nestled in the prestigious village of Chassagne, in the southern CA´te de Beaune. With the addition of their son, Bastien, who joined the family business in 2012, Laura and Philippe oversee the cultivation of just seven vineyards, including the renowned Grand Cru BActard-Montrachet. These properties, spanning seven hectares (17 acres), are dedicated to chardonnay and pinot noir, the quintessential grape varieties of the region.
In addition to the illustrious Grand Cru BActard-Montrachet, Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay boasts an impressive array of Chassagne-Montrachet Premiers Crus sites. Notably, the family owns two Premiers Crus parcels adjacent to the esteemed Grand Cru Montrachet itself. Under Philippe's meticulous vineyard management, the mature vines are carefully tended to, with yields strictly controlled and grapes hand-harvested.
Overseeing the winemaking process, Philippe brings a touch of rebellion to his craft. Opting for a more traditional, minimal-interventionist approach, he shuns trendy winemaking techniques such as cold soaking and rigorous lees stirring. Instead, his focus is on allowing the purity of the terroir to shine through. The result is Coffinet-Duvernay wines characterized by their intense concentration of aromas and flavors, capturing the essence of their distinguished terroir and possessing the ability to age gracefully for decades.
Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay's origins stem from a love story, and indeed, love continues to be the driving force behind this historic Burgundian estate. Through Laura and Philippe's unwavering passion for Chassagne, the estate stands out with its prestigious vineyard holdings and impeccably elegant wines, offering a true reflection of their exceptional terroir.
