In the 1970s, while most vintners in Rias Baixas were making the switch to the trendy Albarino grape, the Mendez family was boldly going against the grain. They chose to preserve and revive the traditional vines of Caino, Espadiero, and Loureiro Tinto, a true homage to Galician heritage.
This courageous mission took flight in the early 21st Century when Rodrigo Mendez and esteemed winemaker Raul Perez united their talents. Together, they didn't just produce exceptional Albarino; they resurrected the rare Galician reds that once graced the region. With methods steeped in tradition, Forjas del Salnes emerged from a humble garage winery in 2005, paying homage to Rodrigo's grandfather, Francisco Mendez, and his ironworks legacy.
Words fall short in capturing the essence of Forjas del Salnes wines. Each sip is a journey through Galician history, with the whisper of Atlantic salinity evoking memories of coastal breezes.
Today, while Rias Baixas is synonymous with white wine, primarily Albarino, Forjas del Salnes stands as a radiant beacon on the landscape with its graceful, ethereal reds.
