Vignerons: Pierre & Jennifer Clair
Location: Corpeau, Cote d'Or (Burgundy)
Size: 3.5 hectares
Farming: Practicing biodynamics
Pierre Clair is no stranger to great vineyards — he’s spent years as vineyard manager at both Domaine Marquis d'Angerville and Domaine de Montille, two pioneers of biodynamic farming in Burgundy.
On the side, Pierre and his wife Jennifer started Clair Obscur, a personal project rooted in family vines in Corpeau, just below Chassagne and Puligny. Since 2015, they’ve expanded to plots in Maranges, Santenay, Beaune, and the Hautes-Cotes, converting all to biodynamic farming.
Pierre handles the vineyard with precision, while Jennifer leads in the cellar — a role Pierre happily respects, saying, “She’s a better winemaker than I am.”
Their winemaking is low-intervention:
The result? Wines that are vibrant, pure, and full of energy, made with the same spirit the Clair family has shared wine for generations, over meals, gatherings, and good conversation.
