Amelie Berthaud was only 25 when she started taking over the family winemaking in 2013 after studying in Bordeaux and apprenticing in Napa Valley and New Zealand. A seventh generation winemaker, her rise is built on her work in Fixin. She is joined by her husband Nicolas Faure (who worked the vineyards for DRC and Prieure-Roch). Her mother’s family property, Domaine Francois Gerbet in Vosne-Romanee, was merged into the current domaine only in 2015 (mergers of marriage). In her family, another notable mergers of marriage is Amelie’s grandfather, Francois Gerbet married Suzette Sirugue (who’s family owns JJ Archambaud). Currently, Berthaut has four old cellars spread around Fixin and since 2015, they had taken property in Flagey-Echezeaux and Gevrey’ Lavaux Saint-Jacques for a total of 18 hectares. They have slowly been moving towards partial whole-cluster (old generation hated seeing stems in the cuverie) and somewhat shorter macerations than has been traditional in Fixin (who is known for hard and unforgiving wines).
