Jerome Galeyrand hails from Craon, the Loire Valley. He worked as a cheese wholesaler before changing his path to winemaking after participating in harvesting for a couple of years at Domaine Alain Burguet in Gevrey-Chambertin. Upon graduation from the wine institute in Beaune, he bought his first vineyard plot Les Retraits in 2002 and proceeded with his own vinification in the winery in his home. Today, Jerome has more than 5 hectares of vines across the Cote de Nuits – in Gevrey-Chambertin, Marsannay, Fixin, and the Cote de Nuits villages. With an unwavering commitment to achieve terroir transparency, precision, and purity in the wines, organic and biodynamic viticulture is largely practised. All pesticides are strictly eschewed, the soil is ploughed to 'keep the land alive', and sulphite use is minimal. Jerome takes a deep interest in studying the genetic material in the vines. He draws genome from old vines and uses them in new massal plantings, maintaining quality variability that contributes to the wines' remarkable energy, depth, and structure.
